I would have been lost if not for the “Modeling logic with decision tables (3)” on page 19 of the slides.

This experience went so much better than the  tutorial: EC2 for poets. I didn’t run into any problems and the instructions were much more accurate than the previous assignment. As I went through the instructions though, I had to remind myself to breathe because I was nervous about what could happen. Since I already had my key pair and security group everything went smoothly and I launched my instance. The instructions said to wait about 10 to 15 minutes before you could get the password. Once I pasted in the text from my key pair and got my password , I connected to the Remote Desktop.

I first had to install the IIS webserver and then BizAgi Express.  Everthing went according to the instructions and completed successfully.  After installing BizAgi Express it put  an icon on the desktop which I used to start the program. It showed seven different modules which  I clicked on to see what each one was used for. BizAgi Express looks a lot like the previous version we installed,but with  a lot more features and of course modules. When I chose Run on the Template module I’m wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do so I stopped.

Can’t wait for an actual project to put it to the test!

This assignment was very frustrating for me. I ran into a lot of problems trying to get through it. For one, the instructions were not very accurate. It would tell you to click on a link and that you would see this or that screen. That was not the case. Screens would come up that was not in the instructions. When I realized this, I would click on “continue” until I got to the screen(s) that was mentioned.

Also, when creating the key pair, a message said it created one but it never gave me the option to save it. I actually had about four different ones trying to get it to the save. After deleting all my attempts and trying it again, the prompt to save came up when I realized that a pop-up blocker was keeping it from downloading.

When I got to the encrypting the password and pasting in the private key saved to my desktop it didn’t work.  After trying and trying, I finally went to Google Group to get responses from the class. While waiting I went back but kept getting the following error: “Stop Running this Script?
A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If
it continues to run, your computer might become unresponsive.”  I would press “Yes” to stop it because I didn’t want to lock my computer up.

After many attempts trying to figure out what to do, I decided to click on “No” to see what would happen. After clicking “no” about five times it FINALLY worked and gave me the encrypted password.  I then logged into the Remote Desktop Connection with the information provided and ran the helloWorld (one word) and got the results expected. Whew! The hard part is over and hopefully everything else will be easy.

What should have taken 10 minutes to an hour took me much longer. Although I had to learn the hard way, if anyone else run into these problems you will not have to go through this too.  Persistance does pay off!

She explained that the password has to be eight (8) alpha-numeric characters. She also explained that they use/give a random reset password to the person  requesting it who then has to go back and reset the password with their chose.  The software they use seemed pretty straightforward and they did not run into many problems for this process. She did explain that, as a precaution you have to answer three security questions that the user chose during their initial sign-up.

Overall, the trip was fun and very informative pertaining to the real world of IT.

The second test was the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin test. This test was a disaster. The diagrams were too advanced for me and hard to follow because they were so complicated. I did not like this test and would not recommend it for those new to BPMN. We had to do a survey before we got to the test which added to an already too long process.

Overall all it was good practice for the test next week.

It is interesting how everyone has a different way of doing the same thing. Kimberly used an Event-based gateway when waiting for corrections from the employee by adding a timer and using an “employee never shows” process thereby ending the process. That was an interesting addition.  I also noted that she used two subprocesses in her diagram, not only for “assign office” but for a “create key control”.  Kimberly also used an exclusive gateway on whether an office was available or not, whereas I used an error event. Again different concepts for the same thing.

For Jamie Ferrell, we were thinking along the same line in our diagrams. Where I used an actual subprocess, he used another lane to show the process for “assign office”. One thing he could have added was a message throw to the employee to receive the onboard package.
